The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has vowed to aggressively overhaul the state’s fiscal architecture, expand its economic base, and create greater fiscal space for development ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Senator Adeola made the pledge on Thursday, October 8, 2026, during an economic policy consultative session with key stakeholders, industrial leaders, and party stalwarts held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta.
Addressing the gathering, Adeola, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, emphasized that the state must look beyond conventional revenue sources to unlock fresh funding for critical infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
”My priority is to strengthen the state’s finances, unlock new sources of wealth, and create the fiscal room needed to deliver transformational infrastructure and socio-economic programs,” Adeola stated.
He noted that leveraging Ogun State’s strategic position as Nigeria’s manufacturing hub alongside innovative economic reforms, including untapped sectors such as “good cause” revenues from regulated lottery operations will expand the state’s internal revenue without imposing punitive tax burdens on citizens.
In a official statement issued after the session, the Chief Press Secretary to the campaign, Chief Kayode Odunaro, highlighted that Adeola’s financial blueprint focuses on three core areas: digitalizing revenue collection, driving public-private partnerships across the Agbara-Ota-Sagamu industrial axis, and strengthening rural agribusiness.
Speaking further on political developments, the Ogun State APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for Adeola’s candidacy, describing his financial management background as the exact capability needed to build upon the achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
The meeting was also attended by executive leaders of major Ogun State transport unions, led by National President of the Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners, Repairers and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOTOMORORAN), Prince Samsudeen Apelogun, who formally presented an endorsement signed by nine key transport unions across the state.
