Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State — The management and students of Hensard University, Toru-Orua, in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have felicitated with teachers across the world as the global community marks International Teachers’ Day.
In a goodwill message to commemorate the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Sudhakar Kota, wished teachers a happy International Teachers’ Day, describing them as the pillars of society.
He said teachers’ selfless sacrifices and the challenges they face are directed at grooming, mentoring and shaping the minds of generations so that they may become useful citizens of their nations and the world.
“Teachers are the pillars of society. Their selfless sacrifices and challenges are to groom, mentor and shape the minds of generations to be useful citizens of the nations and the world. Their services are highly regarded, respected and appreciated. Let’s make it better tomorrow. Better Nigeria,” Professor Kota said.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that teaching is a noble profession that demands patience, dedication and commitment. He noted that teachers do not merely impart knowledge; they also build character, inspire ambition and prepare young people for leadership and service.
He added that the progress of any nation depends largely on the quality of its teachers and the value that society places on education. He therefore urged students, parents, government and all stakeholders in the educational sector to continue to support and appreciate teachers in their work.
The management and students of Hensard University also expressed their gratitude to teachers for their contributions to education and national development. They acknowledged the sacrifices teachers make daily, often under difficult circumstances, and called for greater recognition, improved welfare and continuous training for them.
They said the celebration of International Teachers’ Day, also known as World Teachers’ Day, was a reminder that teachers remain central to the progress of society and to the achievement of sustainable development.
The day is observed annually on 5 October to celebrate teachers and their role in education. At Hensard University, the occasion was marked with messages of goodwill and renewed calls for commitment to building a better Nigeria and a better world.
