Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has declared that the fight against corruption and financial crimes must be treated as a collective national responsibility. He stressed that no society can progress under the weight of economic perversion.

Governor Soludo made these remarks on Thursday, October 1, 2026, during the official commissioning of the new Awka Zonal Directorate Office Complex of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The event took place at the new EFCC ultra-modern complex in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

Soludo emphasised that institutional efforts alone cannot eradicate graft. Combating financial crimes requires active collaboration between government bodies, law enforcement agencies, civic organizations, and everyday citizens.

The governor assured the anti-graft agency of the Anambra State Government’s fullest cooperation and strategic partnership to ensure economic transparency across the region.

Drawing from personal experience following his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Soludo urged the EFCC to routinely publish clear conclusions when investigations exonerate individuals. He noted that because public invitations by investigative bodies are often perceived as indictments by the public, formal exoneration letters are critical for preserving reputations and transparency.

”I honoured the invitation and followed through with the investigation until it was eventually concluded. People deserve to know the end of every investigation, and we will help you produce results for our people,” Soludo stated.

Speaking on behalf of the anti-graft agency, representatives and anti-corruption stakeholders present reiterated the commission’s commitment to decentralizing operations across the South-East region.

The newly commissioned Awka Zonal Directorate is designed to handle financial crime investigations within Anambra State and neighbouring regions, including Imo State.

The ceremony concluded with a facility tour of the new directorate complex and formal commitments from state officials and law enforcement agencies to deepen institutional synergy against financial corruption.
