Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid rich tribute to the late Founder and General Overseer of the All Christians Fellowship Mission (ACFM), Rev. Dr. William Uzochukwu Okoye, describing him as a “statesman of faith” and a “fearless voice of truth”.
The tribute was delivered during the Night of Tributes held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the National Christian Centre in Abuja.
The eulogy was read on behalf of Chief Obasanjo by Bishop Godwin Isaac. In the statement, the former president recalled his close working relationship with Rev. Okoye, who served as the Chaplain of the Aso Rock Chapel during Obasanjo’s administration.
Obasanjo noted that the cleric’s passing has created a “monumental void” across Nigeria, highlighting his uncompromising commitment to truth, righteousness, and national unity.
Obasanjo praised the late minister for remaining a steady spiritual pillar and a voice of conscience, both in public governance and within the wider body of Christ.
The solemn evening event brought together prominent political figures, church leaders, and dignitaries from across the 36 states of the federation.
Arc. Ifeanyi Odedo, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, remarked that Rev. Okoye was an “epitome of integrity,” a “Radio Pastor,” and a leader par excellence whose life inspired countless individuals. He prayed that Okoye’s passage would kindle a fresh revival within the church.
Bro. Gbile Akanni of Peace House, Gboko, delivered an admonition based on 2 Timothy 4:5–8, describing the late cleric as a model of consistent, honest Christianity.
Goodwill messages were also extended by global church leaders, including Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry Worldwide, alongside representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
Rev. Dr. William Okoye peacefully departed on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the age of 73. His passing was officially announced in a joint statement issued by Rev. Godwin Tsee on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the National Executive Council of ACFM, alongside the Okoye family.
Throughout his life, Rev. Okoye was widely respected for his evangelical crusades, radio ministry, and unwavering dedication to spiritual and national reform.
