Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engr. Seyi Makinde, has asserted that Nigeria’s core economic, security, and governance challenges can be successfully reset within a single four-year tenure if he is elected to lead the country from May 29, 2027.
Addressing party delegates, political stakeholders, and civil society leaders during a political declaration and national town hall hosted on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Makinde emphasized that turning the country around requires practical, system-driven reform rather than endless promises.
Makinde outlined a targeted, four-year agenda under his signature “Reset Nigeria Movement” framework, assuring citizens that four years is sufficient time to rebuild institutional trust, decentralize policing, and stabilize key sectors of the economy.
”Nigeria cannot afford four more years of political trial and error,” Makinde declared. “As an engineer, I view our national issues through the lens of structural systems. What we require is deliberate leadership that listens, acts, and enforces strict constitutional accountability. If given the opportunity to lead from May 29, 2027, we will reset the foundation of this nation within four years.”
He stressed key policy directions, including; Economic Competitiveness: Prioritizing productivity, skill acquisition, and investments in energy infrastructure over unmaintainable subsidies.
Constitutional Leadership: Strict adherence to rule of law, including transmitting power in full accordance with constitutional provisions when absent.
Security Restructuring: Implementing state-level and decentralized security strategies to combat violence and restore stability across all geopolitical zones.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, reaffirmed the party’s full alignment with Makinde’s presidential bid, describing him as the candidate equipped to deliver real governance reforms.
”The endorsement of Governor Seyi Makinde as our presidential flagbearer is rooted in a proven record of performance and competence,” Dantalle said. “The APM is fully mobilized across all 36 states and the FCT to champion a issue-driven campaign that puts Nigerians first.”
Amplifying the campaign’s communication strategy, Anthony Ehilebo, official Spokesperson for the Makinde Campaign Organisation, announced the commencement of a nationwide consultative tour following the event.
”Our campaign will focus strictly on direct engagement with ordinary citizens,” Ehilebo stated. “Governor Makinde’s vision to reset Nigeria is a collective mandate, and starting this week, our team will engage town halls in every geopolitical zone to ensure our policy implementation plan addresses the direct needs of the electorate.”
