The Katsina State Government has officially kicked off the direct rollout of high-speed fibre optic services to end consumers, initiating a state-wide transformation aimed at providing affordable, high-speed broadband to local households, commercial enterprises, and public facilities.
​The announcement was delivered on Thursday, August 27, 2026, during a stakeholder sensitization workshop in Katsina under the theme “Creating an Enabling Investment Environment for Fibre Optics Deployment and Connectivity.”
Hosted by the Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA), the event brought together telecommunications executives, internet service providers (ISPs), and key regulatory stakeholders to establish deployment frameworks across all 34 local government areas.
​Delivering the address, Director-General of KIPA, Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur-Jikamshi, noted that digital infrastructure has become an indispensable backbone for economic growth and private sector investment.
​”Katsina State Government has continued to invest in the expansion of fibre optic infrastructure. The challenge before us now is to ensure that this infrastructure translates into actual and affordable connectivity for businesses, institutions and homes,” Tukur-Jikamshi stated.
“The real measure of our progress will not simply be the kilometres of fibre deployed. It will be how many businesses, homes and institutions that infrastructure ultimately connects and the economic opportunities these connections create in our dear state.”
KIPA is coordinating directly with commercial ISPs to transition from core network installations to last-mile home and business connections state-wide.
The state government continues to support network operators by waiving Right-of-Way (RoW) fees and streamlining administrative processes to keep consumer access rates affordable.
The consumer launch supports Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s state roadmap to establish over 2,000 to 3,000 kilometres of fibre optic cabling and achieve 70% broadband penetration state-wide.
​Tukur-Jikamshi assured industry stakeholders that KIPA will provide ongoing regulatory assistance to clear administrative hurdles and safeguard private sector telecom investments.
