President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, following the conclusion of a four-week working vacation across Europe.

The President initially departed Abuja on August 30, 2026, for London, United Kingdom, to begin his annual leave. The trip was later extended by a few days to accommodate official engagements, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

During his stay in Europe, President Tinubu spent a week in London before proceeding to Paris, France. While in Paris, he held bilateral meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and met with prominent business executive Vincent Bolloré, head of the Bolloré Group.

Rather than landing in the nation’s capital, Abuja, reliable presidential sources confirm that President Tinubu’s jet is expected to touch down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday.

The President will stay back in Lagos to conduct state duties and lead the official celebrations for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday, October 1, 2026. This marks the second consecutive year President Tinubu will host the national independence commemoration in Lagos.

Throughout his absence, Vice President Kashim Shettima was delegated to oversee state functions and represent the administration at various international summits.

Presidential aides emphasised that President Tinubu remained in continuous communication with cabinet officials, actively monitoring domestic affairs and directing government operations while abroad.

Following the Independence Day activities in Lagos, President Tinubu is expected to return to the Presidential Villa in Abuja late next weekend to resume full administrative operations.
