In a strategic bid to bolster creative industry growth and expand grassroots mobilization across the state, the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has approved the appointment of prominent Nollywood actresses Nnenna Rachael Okonkwo and Eucharia Anunobi as key political aides within his administration.
​The announcement was officially issued on Monday, September 21, 2026, via a Public Service Statement released from the Cabinet Office, Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Enugu. The official statement was signed and presented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on behalf of the governor. ​
The appointments of the two film veterans form part of a broader administrative engagement comprising 101 political appointees. According to the statement from Prof. Onyia, the newly appointed cabinet aides span three key tiers: 7 Special Advisers, 6 Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and 88 Special Assistants (SAs).
Nnenna Rachael Okonkwo, who has been appointed as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Film and Creative Industry Development. Popularly known for her celebrated lead character in the hit movie series Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, Okonkwo hails from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Her portfolio focuses on scaling local creative talent, attracting film production investments, and positioning Enugu State as a cultural hub for Nigerian cinema. Eucharia Anunobi has been designated as Special Assistant (SA) to the Governor on Women Mobilisation (Enugu-North Zone).
A veteran actress who rose to prominence in the 1990s with over 90 film credits before entering full-time Christian evangelism, Anunobi will lead strategic community engagement, advocacy programs, and social mobilization efforts targeting women across the Enugu-North Senatorial District. ​
While delivering the announcement at the Government House press briefing room, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia emphasized that Governor Peter Mbah expects the new appointees to align seamlessly with the state’s socio-economic transformation agenda.
​”These appointments reflect His Excellency’s vision of engaging technical competence, cultural influence, and grassroots reach to accelerate state-wide development,” Onyia noted during the release.
​According to the Secretary to the State Government, all 101 appointments take immediate effect, with formal orientation and integration into their respective ministries, departments, and agencies scheduled to commence shortly at the State Secretariat Complex, Enugu.
