The Federal Ministry of Education has called on parents and guardians nationwide to ensure their children and wards return to their respective institutions, confirming that the 2026/2027 academic session has officially commenced across all 117 Federal Unity Colleges.
​Academic activities officially kicked off on Monday, September 14, 2026, with a follow-up directive instructing all remaining students to complete their return by Sunday, September 20, 2026, ahead of full classroom instruction.
​Speaking at the Ministry Headquarters in Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, assured stakeholders that comprehensive arrangements had been made to guarantee a seamless, safe, and productive school term.
​”The safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning,” stated Dr. Alausa. “Relevant security agencies have been duly informed of the resumption arrangements and are maintaining heightened vigilance around the Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments.”
​Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, Folasade Boriowo, echoed these statements in a press release, emphasizing that school principals and administrative teams were under strict instruction to facilitate an orderly reception of returning boarders and day students.
​Addressing safety concerns raised by parents across the six geopolitical zones, the Ministry confirmed that security coordination involves a joint effort with local security apparatuses to protect school perimeters.
School management teams have been directed to maintain direct, continuous channels of communication with security personnel, local divisional police headquarters, and parent-teacher associations (PTAs).
​Dr. Alausa reiterated that educational continuity aligns directly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes human capital development and youth empowerment as core pillars for national growth.
