The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday granted former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the request after Nnaji’s counsel, Aji Kamale, moved an application seeking the release of the former minister’s international passport to enable him travel for the treatment. The judge ordered the release of the passport and subsequently adjourned the case until October 26 for continuation of trial.
Nnaji is facing a six-count charge brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged certificate forgery, false information and corruption. He pleaded not guilty to the charges when he was arraigned before the court on July 13.
According to the charge, the ICPC alleged that Nnaji received about N29.58 million in salaries and allowances paid into his Fidelity Bank account between August 2023 and October 2025 while serving as minister, and allegedly ought to have known that the funds were proceeds of unlawful acts. The commission also accused him of using his office to confer a corrupt advantage on himself.
The former minister was further accused of presenting a false National Youth Service Corps certificate and a Microbiology/Biochemistry degree certificate purportedly issued by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, during his appointment process.
The remaining counts relate to alleged forgery and the making and use of false documents, including the alleged presentation of a forged NYSC certificate to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
