The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has expressed deep concern over the alleged sexual abuse and exploitation of a child by her mother in Onitsha, describing the incident as “deeply disturbing” and beyond comprehension.
Her reaction followed the September 10, 2026, arrest of 36-year-old Anulika Onyeanusia by the Anambra State Police Command in Onitsha.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, police operatives acted on open-source intelligence after a viral social media video surfaced showing the suspect allegedly using sex toys on a minor.
The tactical operation led to the recovery of several sex toys and the rescue of four children, aged two, three, six, and nine. Police confirmed that the suspect’s husband is also currently being interrogated to ascertain any connection to the crime.
Reacting to the development from Awka, Dr. Soludo commended the police command for its swift intervention and urged officers to conduct a transparent, thorough, and professional investigation to bring all guilty parties to justice.
“No child deserves to experience such trauma, and no society should ever become comfortable with the abuse of its most vulnerable,” Dr. Soludo stated. “My heart is particularly with the four rescued children. Beyond the immediate rescue, we must heal the emotional and psychological wounds that may have been inflicted.”
The Governor’s wife pledged to collaborate with state government health and social welfare agencies to ensure the children receive comprehensive medical, psychological, and rehabilitation support.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji, emphasized that the command’s immediate priority remains the safety, dignity, and psychological recovery of the rescued minors.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of child abuse, reiterating the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward child exploitation.
