The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, announced on Thursday, September 10, 2026, that his campaign will deploy an independent result-transmission infrastructure during the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an exclusive broadcast interview aired live from ARISE News studios, the former Anambra State governor revealed that the dual-transmission platform will directly route verified polling-unit results to the NDC’s private situation room in real-time.
​The initiative aims to monitor and independently verify vote totals alongside the official system run by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
​”We must make sure that at every polling unit, the votes are counted, the votes are recorded properly, and the votes are transmitted properly,” Obi stated during the broadcast. “We will have even a dual transmission so that as it is going to the proper designated INEC portal, it is also being transmitted where the people can see it”.
​Addressing concerns from political analysts regarding whether the framework constitutes a parallel Independent Result Viewing (IReV) portal, Obi clarified that political parties reserve the constitutional right to track polling data collected by their accredited agents.
He noted that maintaining an independent database prevents discrepancies from emerging between local polling units and regional collation centers.
Designated party agents across all 176,846 polling units will transmit stamped polling sheet records directly to the NDC situation room simultaneously with INEC uploads.
Real-time Cross-Verification: Automated software will run immediate tally checks against public data releases to flag manual manipulation or collation errors.
The infrastructure is expected to work alongside independent election observation groups monitoring the 2027 polls.
​The announcement comes following Obi’s ratification as the NDC presidential flagbearer at the party’s national convention in Abuja on May 30, 2026.
NDC National Publicity Secretary Yunusa Tanko emphasised in a post-interview briefing that technical preparations and logistics for the independent monitoring setup are already underway ahead of official campaign schedules.
