The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council says its 2027 campaign will be issue-based, focusing on the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration rather than making fresh promises or attacking individuals.
The Director-General of the council, Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari, said this on Thursday in Gusau. Yari spoke shortly after a closed-door meeting with Gov. Dauda Lawal and traditional rulers in Zamfara, where he said Nigeria had passed through several challenges that raised concerns about the survival of the country.
He, however, noted that Nigerians had continued to demonstrate their commitment to keeping the country united despite the difficulties it had faced. The former Zamfara governor said the APC campaign would focus on the issues affecting Nigerians and what the party intended to do if given another opportunity to govern the country.
He also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s commitment to Nigeria’s development, describing the President as a leader who loved the country. Yari said the campaign would not be centred on making new promises but on highlighting what the APC-led administration had already accomplished.
He added that his first official engagement as campaign council director-general was with traditional rulers because of their closeness to the people and their important role in society, stressing that their support and blessings would be important to the success of the campaign.
Lawal said the meeting with the traditional rulers was organised to formally present Yari, whom he described as a “son of the soil”, following his appointment as director-general of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
He said it was important to seek the traditional rulers’ support for the campaign and assured the council that Tinubu would receive 100 per cent support from the people of Zamfara in the 2027 general elections.
