The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially launched a major internal peace effort ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning victorious candidates to avoid excluding, humiliating, or marginalising aggrieved aspirants who lost during the party’s recent primary elections.
​The party inaugurated an 11-member National Reconciliation and Peace Committee on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at its National Secretariat in Abuja. The event, which commenced at mid-day, was led by the National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark.
​Addressing party executives, candidates, and stakeholders during the inauguration, Senator Mark emphasized that political victory is a responsibility rather than a tool for division.
​”Our recently concluded primaries produced winners, but they also produced disappointments and grievances. An election may determine who carries the flag, but it must never determine who belongs to the party. Victory comes with responsibility; it is not a licence to exclude, humiliate, or marginalise other members.
Those who did not emerge victorious remain valuable assets whose experience, networks, and commitment we cannot afford to lose.” Senator David Mark said.
Former Senator and retired Brigadier General Tunde Ogbeha was named Chairman of the panel, with former Edo State Governor Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor serving as Deputy Chairman.
Other key members include Dr. Ahmad Ajuji, Barrister Musa Elayo, Senator Andrew Uchendu, and Peter Oyewale, Esq. who serves as secretary.
The committee is tasked with engaging aggrieved aspirants, candidates, and zonal leaders in constructive dialogue, identifying legitimate grievances, establishing zonal sub-committees, and creating frameworks to integrate defeated aspirants into campaign structures.
The ADC leadership explicitly prohibited anti-party activities, warning against “internal sabotage, revenge politics, and unnecessary litigation” that could undermine the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 polls.
​Responding on behalf of the committee, Senator Tunde Ogbeha assured the party leadership that the panel would act with absolute neutrality, fairness, and transparency.
He urged aggrieved aspirants to remain patient and prioritize collective success, noting that the committee will engage members across all six geopolitical zones to rebuild trust and ensure the ADC presents a united front for the upcoming general election.
