Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Monday, August 24, 2026, officially flagged off the construction of a 2.38 kilometre flyover bridge along the Oyemekun- Oba Adesida Road corridor in Akure.
​The ceremony was held at Cathedral Junction in the state capital. The 94-span flyover bridge extends from Adegbola Junction to the St. Matthias/NNPC Filling Station in the Alagbaka area.
Designed as the second major flyover initiative in Akure, the project aims to resolve long-standing traffic bottlenecks along the city’s main economic and administrative corridor.
​Speaking at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa defended the bridge’s construction as an urgent civic necessity driven by rigorous technical evaluations:
​”This corridor has long served as the fulcrum of commercial, administrative, and social activity in the capital city,” Governor Aiyedatiwa said. “Increasing population, rising vehicular movement, and expanding commercial activities have created persistent congestion and heightened the risk of road accidents. A responsible government must act decisively to remedy the situation, and that is exactly what we are doing right now.”
​Addressing federal fiscal dynamics, Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that the initiative aligns with local needs and is made viable through improved federal allocation frameworks.
Ondo State Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, confirmed that traffic assessment studies by the ministry identified the Alagbaka axis as a primary bottleneck requiring a multi-span flyover to restore flow.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, stated that the project forms a core component of the administration’s “OUR EASE” framework, focusing on urban modernization and traffic reduction.
Governor Aiyedatiwa credited Federal Government fiscal reforms for enabling state-level capital investments, emphasizing that project decisions reflect careful planning and extensive stakeholder engagement.
​The flag-off ceremony was attended by members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, community elders, and local business stakeholders. Traffic diversions along the affected sections of the Oyemekun–Oba Adesida route are being implemented as initial site works commence.
