Former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo demonstrating his continued commitment to health and physical fitness, led approximately 100 senior citizens on a 2.5-kilometer health walk within the grounds of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The physical exercise session, which commenced early Saturday morning, was organized under the auspices of the OOPL Senior Citizens Club as part of its periodic health and wellness initiative.

Dressed in athletic wear, the nonagenarian statesman set the pace for the participants, who engaged in light stretching and warm-up exercises prior to setting off on the 2.5km route around the presidential library complex.

Addressing participants during the event, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo emphasized the critical role of continuous physical activity, balanced lifestyle choices, and mental engagement in maintaining vitality during old age. He encouraged the elderly to embrace active routines rather than passive lifestyles, noting that age should never be a barrier to physical well-being.

”Fitness is not a destination for the young alone; it is a necessity for every stage of life. As we age, staying active keeps the body resilient, the mind sharp, and the spirit strong,” Obasanjo stated.

Speaking on behalf of the organizers, Prof. Peter Okebukola, a key coordinator within the OOPL facility, highlighted the objectives of the Senior Citizens Club. He noted that the keep-fit program was designed to encourage regular health checks, physical movement, and social interaction among the elderly in the state.

Participants at the walk praised the former president for serving as a practical role model for active aging, expressing appreciation for the platform provided by the OOPL Senior Citizens Club to foster health, longevity, and community bonding.
