The Nasarawa State Government has embarked on the construction of a major flyover project at Total Junction in Keffi to address a history of fatal road crashes that have claimed 225 lives along the Abuja-Keffi corridor. The project details were disclosed during an inspection tour led by the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, alongside the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Presidential Media Team.
Alhaji Wada Mohammed, Managing Director of the Nasarawa State Urban Development Agency (NSUDA), explained that the flyover and circular intersection project was initiated due to the hazardous junction configuration and road alignment, which previously resulted in severe collisions, including vehicles losing control and crashing into nearby residential buildings.
The project, which extends over one kilometre, underwent an upward budget review to meet Federal Ministry of Works standards for increased bridge headroom to accommodate heavy-duty vehicles. The total cost of the project is estimated between ₦43 billion and ₦44 billion, which includes over ₦600 million paid in compensation to affected property owners and approximately ₦1 billion allocated for road furnishing.
Funded through enhanced state revenues and federal allocation support under Governor Abdullahi Sule’s Nasarawa Economic Development Strategy (NEDS), the flyover is designed to separate long-distance through-traffic from local ground-level transit. Once completed, it is expected to reduce travel times between Abuja and Keffi from over two hours to under 40 minutes.
The project is scheduled for completion by December 2026. State officials anticipate that the infrastructure will improve road safety, ease persistent traffic congestion, stimulate regional commerce, and enhance the overall urban aesthetics of Keffi.
