Ahead of the upcoming Osun State governorship election, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the massive deployment of 10,210 officers and specialized tactical formations across the 30 Local Government Areas of the state.
​The deployment, which officially commenced on Monday, August 10, 2026, aims to safeguard voters, electoral officials, observers, media personnel, and critical infrastructure against any threats of intimidation, violence, or disruption.
Approximately 1,000 personnel each have been drawn from 10 neighboring and nearby state commands including Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to reinforce the Osun State Command.
The deployment includes elite units such as the Arms Squad, Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Unit, and the Anti-Vandal Squad.
Operatives will be stationed across key venues, including the INEC State Headquarters in Osogbo, collation centers in all 30 LGAs, registration area centers (RACs), and critical national assets across major towns such as Osogbo, Ile-Ife, Ilesa, and Ede.
​Speaking on behalf of the Commandant General, the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, issued a formal statement in Abuja on Monday outlining the Corps’ posture for the election.
​”The Commandant General has directed all deployed officers to maintain the highest level of professionalism, neutrality, and civil conduct throughout the electoral exercise. Our presence is intended to create a peaceful and safe environment for citizens to exercise their franchise without fear of intimidation or harassment.”
​The NSCDC leadership issued a stern warning to political actors, thugs, and potential troublemakers intending to disrupt the electoral process through ballot-box snatching, voter intimidation, or vote-buying.
​The Corps emphasized that both uniformed and undercover operatives will be working in close synergy with sister security agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to apprehend and prosecute offenders under the Electoral Act.
