Ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for this weekend, the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Osun State chapter, has officially endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in office, describing his administration as exceptionally farmer-friendly.
​The endorsement was formally declared during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting and rally held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, the state capital.
​Addressing thousands of farmers, agricultural stakeholders, and political supporters gathered at the venue, the State Chairman of AFAN, Alhaji Safiriyu Aremu, highlighted the administration’s transformative interventions in the agricultural sector over the past four years.
​”Governor Ademola Adeleke has proven beyond doubt that he is a true friend of the agrarian community,” Aremu stated during his keynote address. “From the mass procurement and deployment of modern tractors to local councils, to the free distribution of high-yield seeds, fertilizers, and herbicides, this administration has breathed new life into Osun agriculture. Our endorsement is a vote of confidence in continuity, food security, and rural prosperity.”
​Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Otunba Tola Faseru, praised AFAN for recognizing the state government’s initiatives, emphasizing that the governor’s 5-point agenda prioritized farm mechanization and youth empowerment through agro-industrialization.
​In his response, Governor Adeleke, represented by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, expressed gratitude to the farmers for their unwavering trust and unanimous endorsement. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to dedicating additional resources toward farm infrastructure, expanding tractor access, and guaranteeing direct financial support to local agropreneurs.
A unanimous vote by AFAN executive members and commodity group representatives to mobilize rural farming communities across all 30 local government areas for Governor Adeleke.
There was presentation of impact reports showcasing tractor distribution, inputs allocation, and training programs supported by developmental partners like GIZ.
A display of harvested crops and livestock products by local farmers to commemorate the partnership between the state government and AFAN.
​With the governorship election taking place this weekend, AFAN’s high-profile backing provides a major political boost to Governor Adeleke’s re-election campaign across the state’s agrarian voting base.
