The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has commenced a five-day shooting exercise for cadets in Kaduna, urging residents living around the Afaka Range to stay away from the designated areas throughout the training period.
The Academy’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Reuben Kovangiya, said in a statement on Monday that the exercise would run from July 20 to July 24 between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily at the NDA Open Range, Afaka. He explained that the exercise formed part of the academy’s routine military training programme for cadets.
Kovangiya advised residents of Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya and other neighbouring communities, as well as the general public, to avoid trespassing or moving close to the shooting range while the exercise lasts. He said adequate safety measures had been put in place to ensure the successful conduct of the training.
He appealed to media organisations and community leaders to help disseminate the information to enhance public awareness and safety. Kovangiya also thanked residents for their continued cooperation and conveyed the assurances of the NDA Commandant, Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye.
