The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have resolved to intensify joint intelligence operations and bolster border enforcement to dismantle transnational human trafficking rings and curb irregular migration.
​The strategic commitment was finalized following high-level bilateral talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, led by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Nigeria, Wouter Plomp.
​The discussion focused on expanding technical cooperation between the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Dutch law enforcement authorities, with a focus on advanced intelligence sharing, modernizing border surveillance technologies, and establishing targeted joint task forces.
​”Human smuggling networks exploit vulnerable individuals across international borders, making single-nation solutions ineffective,” Ambassador Tuggar noted during the session. “By deepening our operational alliance with the Netherlands, we are strengthening our capacity to disrupt criminal syndicates while ensuring legal, safe, and orderly migration channels remain open.”
The direct coordination between the Nigeria Police Force, NIS, and Dutch security services to track and apprehend transnational human smuggling cartels and the deployment of specialized digital monitoring equipment and targeted training programs for personnel at key land and maritime borders.
This cooperation also enhances capacity-building initiatives alongside the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to streamline evidence collection and ensure protection for survivors and Initiatives focused on job creation and vocational training in high-emigration regions to address the economic root causes of irregular migration.
