The Delta Government has commenced emergency repairs on the failed Mosogar-Oghara section of the Warri-Benin Highway following a directive by Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The Commissioner for Works (Urban and Highway), Mr Reuben Izeze, announced this at a news conference on Thursday in Asaba, saying the intervention was aimed at restoring safer and smoother transportation along the busy route.
Izeze said the decision followed concerns from motorists over the deteriorating condition of the highway, where potholes and pavement failures had caused delays and posed safety challenges. He explained that the state intervened despite the road being a federal highway because of its importance to regional commerce and economic activities across the South-South.
The commissioner disclosed that Obakpor Engineering Construction Company had moved equipment and materials to the site and commenced repairs on the damaged portions. He said the intervention would improve traffic flow while awaiting comprehensive reconstruction plans and other long-term measures by the Federal Government.
Izeze described the Warri-Benin Highway as a vital link connecting the South-South region to other parts of the country, supporting the movement of goods, agricultural produce and petroleum supplies. He expressed hope that the emergency repairs would reduce disruptions and provide relief to residents and motorists using the route.
