The national leadership of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) has ordered the immediate dissolution of its Edo State Executive Committee and placed all state-level union operations on indefinite suspension.

The sweeping disciplinary measures were officially announced at a press briefing in Benin City following a high-level emergency sitting of the union’s National Executive Council (NEC).

The crisis centers on accusations of persistent insubordination and total disregard for constitutionally mandated directives issued by the union’s national headquarters.

State leadership, under suspended Chairman Comrade Osaro Idahosa, repeatedly bypassed national protocol, including taking independent political stances on state-level labor matters without central approval.

Despite multiple official queries and formal warnings issued over recent months, the state executive committee failed to align its operations with national directives.

All union activities, property, and official functions across Edo State are frozen until further notice, pending the setup of an interim caretaker committee.

”No state chapter is above the constitution of our great union. The deliberate refusal of the Edo State executive to adhere to lawful directives left the national leadership with no choice but to intervene decisively to preserve organizational integrity,” declared NUTGTWN General Secretary, Comrade Ali Baba.

The national body assured all grassroots members across Edo State that the decision was taken to protect the collective interests of textile and tailoring workers, promising that a transitional committee will be announced in due course.
