​The Federal High Court in Abuja has set bail at ₦2 billion for Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore President Bello Bodejo as he awaits trial over alleged $2.63 million illicit cash transactions.
​In a ruling delivered on Monday, July 20, 2026, Presiding Judge Inyang Ekwo exercised judicial discretion to grant bail, affirming that the 12-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) contains bailable offences under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
​Justice Ekwo imposed stringent bail conditions to ensure the defendant’s presence throughout the proceedings.
Bodejo must provide two sureties in the like sum of ₦2 billion each. One surety must own verifiable landed property within Abuja valued at ₦2 billion, with ownership documents subject to registry verification.
One surety must reside in the Federal Capital Territory and show proof of tax payments covering 2023, 2024, and 2025. Bodejo must surrender his international passport to the court and cannot travel abroad without formal judicial approval.
​The anti-graft agency alleges that Bodejo accepted approximately $2.63 million in cash outside the regulated banking sector, breaching the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act. Following his formal arraignment on July 9, 2026, Bodejo pleaded not guilty to all counts.
​While prosecution counsel Wahab Shittu, SAN, argued against bail, defense attorney Ahmed Raji, SAN, successfully secured his client’s conditional release.
Justice Ekwo adjourned the suit to October 5, 6, and 7, 2026, for the full trial.
