As the countdown to the 2027 general elections begins to gather momentum, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Chief Ifeanyi Odii, has made a landmark pledge to serve for only a single term of four years if voted into office.
Odii, a prominent businessman and politician, made this declaration on Friday, July 10, 2026, during an interactive session with key PDP stakeholders, youth groups, and community leaders at the party’s secretariat in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Odii stated that his decision to seek the state’s highest office is driven solely by a desire to rescue Ebonyi from its current economic doldrums, rather than a thirst for prolonged political power.
”My mandate is a rescue mission. I am giving a firm commitment to the people of Ebonyi State today, July 10, 2026, that I will serve for only one term. In those four years, my administration will aggressively reshape the socio-economic and political landscape of our state, lay an irreversible foundation for prosperity, and quit the stage for others to follow,” Odii declared.
The PDP standard-bearer critiqued the current economic trajectory of the state, noting that the citizens are grappling with high poverty rates and untapped agricultural and human potential. He emphasized that a single, focused term would prevent the distractions often associated with seeking a second-term re-election, allowing him to execute drastic reforms.
According to Odii, his short-term governance blueprint will prioritize maximizing Ebonyi’s vast agricultural and mineral resources to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without overburdening small businesses.
He noted that Ebonyi needs to focus on Human Capital Development by Investing heavily in public education, healthcare, and youth entrepreneurship to reduce poverty.
Reacting to the development, a frontline PDP stakeholder in the state, Chief Emmanuel Nwankwo, lauded Odii’s selflessness, describing the single-term promise as a breath of fresh air in Nigerian politics.
”What Chief Odii has done today shows that he is a leader who is ready to work with a sense of urgency. By taking the second-term distraction off the table, he is telling Ebonyians that every single day of his administration will count,” Nwankwo said.
With political parties already aligning forces ahead of the 2027 polls, Odii’s unconventional strategy is expected to reshape the dynamics of the gubernatorial race in Ebonyi State, challenging the ruling party to defend its governance record over the coming months.
