​The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has stated that there is currently no official communication or directive regarding the provision of relief materials or compensation for residents who lost property in the recent floods.
The agency disclosed this following a joint disaster assessment conducted alongside the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) across several heavily impacted local government areas, including Alimosho, Ikeja, Kosofe, and Lagos Island.
LASEMA spokesperson Afolabi Olawale confirmed that the agency has not received any formal government orders to distribute financial aid or relief goods. “As of now, there is no official statement… When it is available, we will disseminate it,” Olawale stated.
The joint NEMA-LASEMA evaluation covered severely hit communities such as Oke-Ira (Ikeja), Oworonshoki and Gbagada (Kosofe), as well as Idumagbo Avenue and Jankara (Lagos Island). The assessment confirmed significant damage to residential homes, business assets, and public infrastructure.
NEMA attributed the severe flash flooding to prolonged, torrential rainfall combined with inadequate and blocked drainage systems, which left several roads temporarily impassable and displaced numerous families.

​While residents await news on potential state intervention, emergency officials have intensified community sensitization efforts. Flooded communities are being urged to adopt strict preventative measures, including regular desilting of local canals and drains, and halting the improper disposal of household waste into stormwater channels to mitigate future risks.
