The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Ebonyi State, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has declared that the 2027 governorship election will be defined by capacity and service delivery rather than zoning sentiments.
Speaking on the political future of the state, Odii emphasized that the pressing needs of Ebonyi citizens ranging from economic development to infrastructural growth require a leader with a proven track record of performance, regardless of their zone of origin.
”The critical issue in the 2027 governorship contest is who can deliver real service to the people and develop the state,” Odii stated. “Hunger, poverty, and underdevelopment do not know zoning. We must prioritize competence over sentiments.”
Odii argued that relying strictly on rotational arrangements often sidelines visionary leaders who possess the actual capacity to transform the state’s economy. He urged the electorate to scrutinize candidates based on their blueprints for wealth creation, qualitative education, healthcare, and industrialization.
The PDP chieftain maintained that for Ebonyi to compete favorably on a national scale, voters must shift their mindset from political entitlement to meritocracy. The debate over zoning has long been a contentious issue in Ebonyi State politics.
However, Odii’s firm stance signals a determined push by the opposition to reframe the 2027 campaign narrative around governance metrics and tangible development.
