Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has strongly condemned the recent kidnapping of citizens at the popular Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City, describing the incident as “unacceptable” and a direct assault on peaceful residents.
​The abduction, which reportedly took place on Sunday, has sparked widespread concern over urban security. In a swift reaction, Governor Okpebholo assured the public that his administration would not fold its arms and allow criminal elements to terrorize the state.
​”This brazen attack on innocent citizens going about their lawful businesses is unacceptable,” the Governor stated. “We view this as a direct affront to the peace and security of Edo State, and we will deploy all necessary resources to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
​Following the incident, the state government has ordered a heightened security presence around major commercial hubs and public spaces in the capital.
Security agencies, including the police and tactical squads, have been ordered to increase surveillance along the Airport Road axis. Community leaders and market associations are being engaged to improve local intelligence gathering.
Security forces have reportedly swung into action, launching a manhunt to track down the kidnappers and safely rescue the victims.
