Panic and chaos gripped the community of Ngbo in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State early this morning, after heavily armed gunmen launched a violent attack on the Ebonyi State College of Health Technology. The assault left at least ten students injured and the institution in a state of shock.

According to eyewitnesses and local security sources, the attackers breached the college campus in the early hours of the morning, firing sporadically into the air to create panic. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede as students scrambled for safety, leaping through windows and fleeing into nearby bushes to escape the assault.

While no fatalities have been officially confirmed, hospital sources report that ten students are currently receiving treatment for varying degrees of injuries. Most of the victims sustained deep lacerations, fractures, and bruises during the chaotic scramble to escape, while a few suffered gunshot wounds.

”We were jolted awake by the sound of heavy gunfire,” said a traumatized student who escaped unhurt. “Everyone started running in different directions. People were jumping from the upstairs windows of the hostel. It was pure terror.”

Aside from the physical injuries inflicted on the students, the attackers reportedly vandalized several university properties, including hostel doors, vehicles parked on campus, and the school’s security post, before fleeing the scene.

The Ebonyi State Police Command has deployed a heavily armed tactical team to the area to restore order and track down the perpetrators.

The State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation has been launched to determine the identity and motive of the attackers. Security has also been beefed up around the campus and surrounding communities to prevent further breaches.

The state government has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act against innocent students. Officials have urged the public to remain calm, assuring them that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the criminals to justice.

As of Wednesday afternoon, academic activities at the College of Health Technology have been temporarily suspended, and a somber silence hangs over the campus as traumatized students pack their bags to return home.
