Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, has officially resigned his membership from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), delivering a stinging rebuke to the party following the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its 2027 presidential flagbearer.

Lawal, who announced his resignation via his official social media handles, alleged that the party’s recently concluded presidential primary was heavily manipulated and “massively rigged” to favor Atiku.

In a scathing assessment of the primary process, the former SGF claimed that election results across various levels were deliberately altered and that legitimate winners were unseated to accommodate individuals loyal to the former Vice President.

Lawal stated that his conscience would not allow him to remain part of a political platform that operates what he termed a “rigging machine” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

”I cannot in good conscience remain in a party that has completely abandoned democratic principles to satisfy personal ambitions,” Lawal remarked, adding that working to install Atiku would inadvertently hand President Bola Tinubu a second term in office.
