The Governing Council, University of Uyo has appointed Prof. Christopher Ekong as the new Vice Chancellor of the University.
The Registrar, Mrs Blossom Okorie, who disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Thursday, said that Ekong emerged through a rigorous and transparent process.
Okorie said that the process included review of applications, assessment of credentials and interaction with shortlisted candidates.
“The process aligned with established frameworks and guidelines. It ensured fairness, merit and integrity,” she said.
The registrar further said that Ekong demonstrated outstanding academic excellence, administrative competence, visionary leadership, and strong commitment to advancement of the university.
She said that Ekong’s appointment as the 9th substantive vice chancellor of the university would take effect from June 16.
Ekong is a scholar of Economics, with a track record in teaching, research and administration.
Before the appointment, he has served the university in other capacities including the Chairman, Committee of Deans.
