Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi has commended the leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state for embarking on infrastructural projects aimed at improving the working conditions of its personnel.
Ododo gave the commendation on Wednesday at the inauguration of some projects at the renovated Command Headquarters of the NSCDC in Lokoja.
The governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Timothy Ojomah, said the new infrastructure would strengthen the state’s security framework.
He lauded the State Commandant, Mr Olumide Aletan, for his proactive leadership and dedication to improving facilities within the command, adding that the Ododo administration places a high premium on security and conducive environment for security agencies to operate effectively.
He described the NSCDC as a vital partner in safeguarding lives and property across the state, highlighting its strong grassroots presence and deep understanding of local dynamics.
According to him, the corps has extended its operations beyond urban centres, particularly through its agro-rangers unit, which has played a key role in protecting farmers and farmlands.
“The corps has been exceptional in providing security. They understand the pulse of the people and are consistently present where they are needed,” he said.
He reaffirmed the government’s support to security agencies in the state.
In his address, NSCDC Commandant, Aletan, said the projects were part of deliberate efforts to reposition the command in line with the standards of military and paramilitary institutions.
He noted that the upgrades were necessary to address existing gaps and align operational structures for improved efficiency and professionalism.
The commandant described the new quarter guard as both symbolic and strategic, stating that it would boost personnel morale and reinforce discipline within the command.
“The quarter guard alone will boost morale and reflects our commitment to doing things right. Its proper positioning indicates that our operations from intelligence gathering to collaboration with other security agencies are on track,” he said.
He said that the NSCDC has continued to strengthen partnerships with other security agencies, particularly in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as supporting agricultural activities through the agro-rangers unit.
Aletan also disclosed that the command is actively addressing recent security concerns in the state, including incidents involving children, assuring that efforts are ongoing to ensure their safety and recovery.
“We are fully on top of the situation, and appropriate steps are being taken. Necessary collaborations have been activated to restore normalcy and reinforce security,” he stated.
He further highlighted ongoing collaboration with stakeholders, including transport unions, to tackle vandalism and other criminal activities, noting that all operations are conducted within the bounds of the law.
The goodwill messages were delivered by the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Security Trust Fund, Omeiza Umar; the Chief Executive Officer of Treasures Bakery, Dr Femi Akande; and representatives of other security agencies, all of whom commended the NSCDC for its contributions to security in the state.
