Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has stated that he will speak out should the African Democratic Congress (ADC) become transactional when choosing a candidate for the election.
The former Anambra governor, during an interview with Arise News, further noted that who people are today is more important than who they were yesterday.
He also added that he would leave the ADC if the party’s processes were compromised, arguing that he could never be involved in electoral fraud.
Obi made this known when he was challenged on his political journey, which has seen him move across several parties.
The anchor pointed out that moving from one party to another instead of staying to fix the problems may affect Nigerians’ trust in him, probably due to perceived political inconsistency.
In response, Obi disclosed that he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the build-up to the 2023 presidential election because the members were not playing by the rules, and getting a party ticket had become transactional.
“In PDP, people were not playing by the rules, it was transactional, and I can not be part of a transactional primary,” Obi declared.
When the anchor pointed out that some of the people Obi criticized in the PDP are now with him in the ADC, Obi said he would speak up if similar transactional practices occur in the ADC before the 2027 elections.
Obi explained in the interview that he left the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the PDP after a disagreement with his successor as Governor of Anambra State. He said the relationship had become toxic, and he wanted to focus on governance.
Obi said he left the Labour Party because of actions by the ruling government.
