President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence, tolerance and mutual respect, regardless of faith, ethnicity or political affiliation, as Christians across the country celebrate Easter.

Akpabio gave the advice in a congratulatory Easter message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, where he urged Christians to reflect on the values of love, sacrifice and peaceful coexistence which the season represents.

“On behalf of my family, my constituents, the Senate, and the National Assembly of Nigeria, I extend my warmest Easter greetings to all Christians in Nigeria and around the world,” the Senate President said in the message.

He described Easter as a sacred period in the Christian faith, commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which he said symbolises sacrifice, redemption and hope for mankind. According to him, the season serves as a reminder to Nigerians to show love to one another and live in peace irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.

Akpabio stressed that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and urged citizens to use the Easter period to promote unity and national cohesion. He noted that peaceful coexistence remains essential for national development, stability and progress, adding that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of division and conflict.

The Senate President also urged Nigerians to pray for the peace, unity and prosperity of the country, especially at a time when the nation is facing various economic and security challenges. He said the Easter season provides an opportunity for reflection, reconciliation and renewed commitment to national unity.

He further called on political leaders, community leaders and religious leaders to promote dialogue, tolerance and understanding among Nigerians, noting that leadership comes with the responsibility to unite people rather than divide them.

Akpabio assured Nigerians that the Senate under his leadership would continue to support policies and legislation aimed at promoting national unity, economic growth and improved welfare for citizens. He said the National Assembly of Nigeria remains committed to working with the executive arm of government to address the challenges facing the country.

He concluded his message by wishing Christians a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration and urged Nigerians to continue to show kindness, compassion and love to one another, in line with the teachings of Easter and the example of Jesus Christ.
