When my cousin told me King’s College Lagos had made Bola Ahmed Tinubu an honorary old boy I was shocked.
Joe Gould’s school as distinguished as Kings College lowers its standards and honours a man that no one knows who his own school mates are from secondary school, and whose U.S. education has caused so much controversy.
Listening to the man read, I do not see a well-read man. I hear a man who might be street smart but is not well rounded in his education, as he cannot pronounce simple English words. In fact, he sounds like an illiterate.
I wrote to Kings College suggesting that they honour my father, who was a distinguished old boy — a former student that should have made the school proud. They never responded.
When I wrote to University of Cambridge they were only too happy to honour my father and have created a special honour in his memory so all Cambridge students know the name of the legal luminary from Nigeria, Chief Godfrey Kio JaJa Amachree, both his old college and the entire Cambridge community.
Not one Nigerian school has bothered to respond — not Kings College, not Government College Umuahia, not even the institutions that benefited from men like him.
After hearing of the Tinubu honour, I will not reach out to Kings College again.
Nigeria really needs to get its priorities together. It needs to look into its soul. It needs to undergo an exorcism, because Nigeria is possessed by a demon the likes I have never seen before.
