A group of heavily armed bandits abducted five foreign nationals from Burkina Faso at a gold mining site in Zamfara State, Nigeria.
This happened at a gold mining site near Arafa village in the Maru Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State.
The attack occurred at approximately 11:15 am. when Five(5) workers from Burkina Faso was abducted by a large group of armed bandits believed to be based between the villages of Arafa and Gidan Dankande.
Personnel from the nearby Operation FANSAN YAMMA base were deployed to the scene, but the bandits had already fled into the surrounding bush with the captives before they arrived.
Security forces are currently combing the area and using intelligence to track the bandits and ensure the safe release of the abducted foreigners.
Security analysts, including Zagazola Makama, have linked this incident to the broader, dangerous relationship between illegal mining operations and armed banditry in the region, where criminal networks often exploit mineral wealth for profit.
