The spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, on Tuesday announced that the party has corrected anomalies discovered on its digital membership registration platform following widespread reports of fake entries.
In a post on X, Abdullahi said the party closely monitored the surge in online activity that followed the launch of the portal, including satirical registrations submitted under the names of “world leaders” and “historical figures.”
“We have observed with keen interest the wave of online activity surrounding the launch, including the ‘world leaders’ and ‘historical figures’ who seem keen on being a part of the efforts to kick out the APC and get Nigeria back on track,” he wrote.
The development comes amid heightened political activity as opposition parties step up efforts to reposition themselves ahead of future electoral contests. The ADC’s digital registration drive was designed to expand its grassroots base and attract new members nationwide through an accessible online platform.
Abdullahi disclosed that the party has now completed the initial rollout phase of the portal and addressed the observed irregularities.
“The initial rollout phase has been completed and observed anomalies corrected,” he stated, reassuring prospective members of the platform’s integrity.
He urged Nigerians who are genuinely interested in joining the party to take advantage of the improved system and formally register, describing the ADC as a movement committed to “lawful, transparent, and people-centered leadership.”
Political observers note that the rise in satirical or fake registrations highlights both the level of public attention the portal attracted and the broader use of digital tools in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape. They add that while online engagement can boost visibility, parties must also invest in robust verification mechanisms to protect the credibility of their membership databases.
The ADC has yet to release official figures on the number of valid registrations recorded since the portal’s launch, but party officials maintain that the platform remains open to Nigerians seeking an alternative political platform.
