President Bola Tinubu will on Wednesday swear in Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police following the unanimous endorsement of his appointment by the Nigeria Police Council on Monday.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place during the Federal Executive Council meeting scheduled for the same day, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The Nigeria Police Council meeting, held at the State House in Abuja, was presided over by Tinubu and attended by top government officials in line with constitutional provisions guiding the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police.
Among those present were Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu.
Also in attendance were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Esther Walson-Jack.
The endorsement by the council clears the final procedural hurdle for Disu’s confirmation as the nation’s top police officer. His appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of leadership within the Nigeria Police Force, amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen internal security and reform law enforcement operations.
Disu’s swearing-in during the Federal Executive Council meeting underscores the administration’s emphasis on institutional processes and constitutional compliance in key security appointments.
