The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has projected a sweeping victory for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing strong backing from traditional rulers and local stakeholders for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno.
Akpabio, a native of Essien Udim, made the declaration to journalists shortly after the emergence of new APC local government officers through a consensus process. He urged the newly elected party executives to maintain unity and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures to ensure continued success.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President congratulated party faithful, describing the smooth local government elections as a reaffirmation of loyalty to both the President and the Governor.
“The consensus process reflects our commitment to internal democracy, discipline, and collective action. We must continue to consolidate our gains at the grassroots,” the statement quoted Akpabio as saying.
The development signals an intensified push by the APC in Akwa Ibom, with party leaders emphasizing cohesion and strategic mobilization as the state approaches the 2027 general elections.
