Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended President Bola Tinubu and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for approving ₦8 billion in support of victims of the recent Singer Market fire in Kano. In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, the governor expressed profound gratitude for what he described as a significant intervention aimed at helping affected traders rebuild their businesses and livelihoods.
“The support comprises ₦5 billion from the Federal Government and ₦3 billion from Progressive APC Governors across the country,” Yusuf said. Describing the gesture as “timely and compassionate,” the governor noted that the funds would “significantly cushion the devastating impact of the fire on traders and their families.” He added that the intervention demonstrates a spirit of national unity and collective responsibility in times of hardship, stressing that the Kano State Government would ensure transparent and equitable distribution of the funds to those genuinely affected.
The Singer Market fire had destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira, leaving many traders counting heavy losses and raising concerns about economic recovery for small and medium-scale business owners in the commercial hub.
