The Lagos State Government on Monday played host to Miss Etiyemonu Esther, the One Day Governor and overall winner of the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, at Lagos House, Marina. In a symbolic gesture captured in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user Riddwane, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, formally handed over his seat to Esther, marking the commencement of her one-day tenure as Governor.
Esther, a student of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta, clinched the prestigious title after emerging as the overall winner of the spelling bee competition in December 2025. Her victory earned her the rare opportunity to experience governance firsthand at the highest level in the state. Announcing her visit in a statement shared on his X account on Monday, Sanwo-Olu commended the young scholar for her brilliance and dedication.
“Today, I received Miss Etiyemonu Esther, the One Day Governor and overall winner of the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, a brilliant student of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta, at Lagos House, Marina,” the governor wrote. The One Day Governor initiative, tied to the Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, is designed to reward academic excellence while inspiring young students across the state to strive for intellectual achievement and leadership. Esther’s visit to Lagos House not only celebrated her academic accomplishment but also underscored the state government’s commitment to promoting education, youth empowerment and merit-based recognition.
