The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned dealers against display of vehicles at unauthorised locations in the state.
General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave the warning today (Wednesday, September 4) during a visit to him by members of Lagos Motor Dealers Association, in Lagos.
Bakare-Oki explained that display of vehicles for sale on road setbacks, walkways and other prohibited areas obstructs free flow of traffic, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
He said that LASTMA has received numerous complaints from community development associations regarding illegal activities of some auto dealers, pointing out that display of vehicles on roadsides, setbacks, streets and walkways pose a significant risk to public safety, obstruct pedestrians’ movement and cause traffic congestion.
“Lagos State Government is dedicated to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for all residents and road users.
“We will not hesitate to enforce the law against any auto dealer found violating these regulations,” he said.
He urged auto dealers to strictly adhere to the guidelines for vehicle display to avoid sanctions, which would include fines and seizure of vehicles.
Responding, President of Lagos Motor Dealers Association, Mr Leke Aladegbemi, said the association is willing to cooperate with LASTMA and other authorities and ensure compliance with regulations.
Aladegbemi said that there is the need for auto dealers to operate within the confines of the law, and pledged to educate members of the association on the importance of adhering to regulations.
