Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians and leaders at all levels to renew their commitment to building a nation worthy of the sacrifices made by fallen members of the Armed Forces.
Obi made the call in a post on his verified X handle on Thursday to mark the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed in honour of military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The former Governor of Anambra State described the day as a solemn reminder of the courage, patriotism and selflessness of soldiers who stood on the frontlines to defend the country, often paying the ultimate price in service to the nation.
According to him, the sacrifices of the fallen heroes should inspire both citizens and leaders to work towards a more just, secure and prosperous Nigeria.
“We must recommit ourselves to building a nation that truly reflects the values for which our fallen heroes gave their lives,” Obi said, stressing that their bravery and dedication should not be remembered in words alone but honoured through responsible leadership and collective national effort.
He also urged Nigerians to continue to remember and support the families of fallen soldiers, noting that their loss is a shared national burden that requires compassion and solidarity.
Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed annually to honour the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who died in the course of defending the country’s sovereignty and maintaining peace.
