Ebem Ohafia Community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has imposed a total ban on the consumption of hard drugs, cultism, violence and other criminal activities within its territory, as part of renewed efforts to restore peace and safeguard lives and property.
The decision was jointly taken by the Ebem Ohafia youths in collaboration with the Central Executive Council of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union, with the endorsement and full backing of the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders.
Announcing the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Publicity Secretary of the Ebem Ohafia Community, Mr Ifeanyi Okali, said the new security directives were introduced in response to rising concerns over activities capable of threatening the unity, safety and moral fabric of the community.
According to the statement, the ban covers the use, sale and distribution of hard drugs, as well as cult-related activities, acts of violence and all forms of criminal behaviour. The community leadership warned that anyone found violating the directives would face stiff sanctions in line with the community’s laid-down rules and applicable laws.
Okali explained that the initiative was designed to promote a peaceful and secure environment for residents, investors and visitors, stressing that Ebem Ohafia would no longer tolerate actions that undermine social order and development.
He added that community youths have been charged to work closely with traditional authorities and relevant security agencies to ensure effective enforcement of the ban, while residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
The community leadership appealed to parents and guardians to caution their wards, emphasising that collective responsibility and cooperation were crucial to sustaining peace and ensuring the continued progress of Ebem Ohafia.
