The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the Federal Government for what it described as a grave lapse in security communication, following the disclosure of details of terror-related airstrikes in Nigeria by the United States before Nigerian authorities briefed the nation.

In a statement issued on Friday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said it was disturbing that Nigerians were left to rely on foreign sources for information about critical security operations carried out on their own soil. He noted that the Federal Government’s delayed response created confusion and undermined public confidence in national leadership.

According to the opposition party, the development reflected a failure of coordination and transparency within the country’s security architecture, stressing that timely and accurate communication is essential during sensitive military operations.

The PDP argued that allowing another country to take the lead in announcing security actions in Nigeria raised serious questions about sovereignty, information management and the government’s commitment to keeping citizens properly informed.

Ememobong said Nigerians deserved prompt briefings from their own authorities, especially on matters that directly affect national security and public safety. He added that silence or delays in such situations only fuel speculation and anxiety among the populace.

The party urged the Federal Government to review its security communication strategy to ensure that relevant agencies promptly address the nation after major operations, rather than leaving room for external narratives to dominate the discourse.

The PDP maintained that effective leadership requires not only decisive action against terrorism but also clear, proactive communication that reassures citizens and affirms Nigeria’s control over its internal affairs.
