The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the strategic deployment of police personnel and operational assets nationwide to ensure security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The directive, issued as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s festive season security strategy, instructs all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General and State Commissioners of Police to intensify patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and community engagement throughout the period.
A statement on Monday by the Force spokesman, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said specialised units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Command, have been placed on high alert to respond promptly to emergencies and maintain law and order.
Hundeyin added that officers would be deployed to major highways, markets, religious centres, and other public spaces to deter criminal activities and ensure the safety of Nigerians during the festive season.
The police also appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, report suspicious activities, and adhere to security advisories to guarantee a peaceful and secure holiday period.
The Force reassured the public that the measures are part of its proactive approach to prevent crimes, reduce accidents, and protect lives and property during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
