Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election and two-term Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi has paid a solidarity visit to his predecessor and immediate past minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige following last Wednesday’s attack on the latter’s convoy.
Ngiges convoy ran into a group of hoodlums operating on the Nkpor – Nnobi road and came under attack. Although the former governor was not in the convoy, one passer-by was shot and killed and one of his police details was also shot and his gun and uniform taken away by the assailants. He has been operated upon and is making a steady recovery.
Upon reading the news, Obi typical of him drove to Alor, Idemili South Local Government home of Ngige to pay a solidarity visit to his once political foe.
The two went into a closed door session where Ngige shared moments that led to the incident and prayed for the repose of the dead victim while wishing the wounded, which included his police orderly and a store owner, quick recovery. Addressing the press shortly after the closed door meeting, Ngige confirmed that there was a casualty in the shooting incident.
On his part, Obi said he was in Alor to express his solidarity with Ngige. “I’m happy he’s safe,” Obi said. “My own is just to thank God he’s safe and his security people are safe,” Obi added.
Obi also expressed happiness that the injured were quickly taken to the hospital and that Ngige being a physician also helped their recovery process as he directed the evacuation and treatment of the wounded from his village home as “doctors in Anambra State are on strike.” “I’m happy he’s in good health. That’s all I came to do,” Obi concluded.
