The Ogun State government officially kicked off the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) Project Implementation, at the Awujale Palace Pavilion, Ojude Oba Arena, Ijebu-Ode, covering Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo, Ijebu-Ode, and Sagamu LGAs, yesterday. The programme marks a significant expansion of the State Government’s efforts to empower women, strengthen households, and drive inclusive economic growth.

Delivering the keynote address, the Governor, Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun CON, who was ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Hon Prince OlaDapo Okubadejo, who also chairs the Multisectoral Coordination Structure (MCS), commended the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, noting that Ogun’s exceptional performance in the first phase earned World Bank recognition as a National Resource Centre for Peer Learning, attracting 16 states for knowledge sharing.

The women’s economic empowerment isn’t just a humanitarian effort. It is essential to the growth of strong, prosperous societies. More importantly, tearing down gender barriers to markets is a viable business strategy that can uplift millions.

Hon. Prince OlaDapo Okubadejo emphasized that the NFWP-SU is “not merely a project launched, but an investment in a future where women have access to opportunities and communities thrive.”, breaking down systemic barriers, and creating lasting economic impact. Through our new unstoppable and collaborative women initiative, we have identified barriers women face to run successful businesses through access to proper business training, financial, and other needs. This project unleashes capital and strengthens the credit-ready pipeline of growth-oriented women-owned micro and small businesses.

Thanks to this partnership, we are able to train, empower, and paved the way for women entrepreneurs through capacity building, access to capital, and empowered ecosystems. The Scale-Up phase will directly empower over 105,000 women through 420 Ward Facilitators. Beneficiaries will receive training in financial education, business skills, life skills, and grievance redress mechanisms (GRM), helping women enhance their entrepreneurial skills and contribute meaningfully to the State’s economy.

Thanks to our shared values, this collaboration between the Federal Government of Nigeria, Ogun State Government, and the World Bank places us on a path toward an even larger fight: ending extreme poverty. In championing women’s economic empowerment, we not only advance gender equality but also lay the foundation for a more inclusive and prosperous society for all in Ogun State.
