Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have recovered additional items belonging to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during follow-up operations after a failed attack on troops at Kukawa, Borno State.
The recovery was made on September 2, 2026, during exploitation operations conducted by troops in the Alagarno axis, north-east of Kukawa. The Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the items were recovered as troops continued operations in the area following the failed terrorist attack.
He said the recovered materials included motorcycles, three blankets, a jackknife, an extra-large prayer mat, cups, tea-making items, a rope, a head warmer and a pair of trousers with bloodstains. Goni said the bloodstained clothing and other abandoned items provided further indications that some of the fleeing terrorists had suffered casualties during the earlier encounter.
According to him, the attackers were forced to abandon some of their equipment and personal belongings as they withdrew from the area following the military response. The latest recovery followed the successful repulsion of the terrorist attack on Kukawa, during which coordinated ground and air operations reportedly inflicted significant losses on the attackers and disrupted their withdrawal.
The military said troops had continued exploitation and clearance operations across the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of action and prevent them from regrouping. Captain Goni assured residents of the North-East that the Joint Task Force remained committed to sustaining operational pressure on terrorist elements in the region.
He said the troops would continue to consolidate recent gains and conduct operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across Borno State and other parts of the North-East.
