A team of Course 34 participants from the National Defence College in Abuja has visited the Geometric Power group headquarters in the Osisioma Industrial Layout of Aba in Abia State as part of the efforts to prepare the participants for greater public service responsibilities.
Led by Air Commodore Liongonfa I. Nanso, the team compromised 25 senior military officers, including those from the Benin Republic, Cameroon, Kenya, Burkina Faso, and Congo Brazzaville.
Also on the team are members of the faculty of the National Defence College, including General Joseph Maduka Chima (retired), as well members of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The Course 34 participants were received by Geometric Power top executives, including Engr Ben Caven, Managing Director of the 188MW Geometric Power Plant, and Barrister Ugo Opiegbe, Managing Director of Aba Power that provides electricity to nine of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in Abia State.
The electricity executives explained the mandate and vision of the group to assist Africa’s rapid development.
According to Brigadier General Ilya H. Daniel, the team’s spokesperson, the participants were in Abia to find out progress in the state with a particular interest in industrialization, and how the progress could enhance national peace and stability.
The visit to Geometric Power, the only organization that generates and distributes its own power in Nigeria, was informed by the group’s central role in catalysing industrialization.
Brigadier General Daniel said the team’s findings will be made published in Abuja later this month, and communicated to the Abia State government for consideration.
